Thanks for all your posts last week! All of the information you provided was awesome and extremely helpful. Now it's my turn to take on an experiment and share with you results of my own. For 1 week, I'm going to take notice of the ads that are posted to the right of my Facebook profile and compare them side by side by the items I have under my interests in my "about me" section. By doing this experiment, I want to see how closely Facebook really looks at someone's profile in order to show them the right target ad. For instance, if I only put the word "dance" under my interests, and 3 ads about dancing come up, then I know Facebook is right on target with their behavioral advertising. But if I post only dancing, and only 1 dancing ad comes up, and two other ones come up that have little to do with dancing, then I'll know that Facebook advertising is less targeted than I thought.
In addition, I will do the same thing in my Gmail: I will send an email to myself with only word in it. When the email is opened, I want to see what types of advertisements pop up on the right hand side in GoogleAd Words. If they are all about one central target, then obviously the marketing is targeted, but if it's on a variety of topics, then I know it's not as targeted as previously conceived.
I will be posting this information everyday in order to you to get a closer look at what types of things are happening.
