In Conclusion, What is Your Take on Your Privacy?

So now that we're familiar with internet ad words and how they're utilized, how do you feel that your information is being used by companies to sell you products? Do you mind that you feed companies the information in order for them to track you down? Do you not mind that your information is being used? Do you mind the Facebook ads and the Google ads popping up on the right side of the page?

All comments and participation has been much appreciated throughout this project!

Google Explains Their Privacy

Looking around the internet for some video this week, I found that Google uploaded a series on YouTube about their privacy practice. In the first video they talk about why they remember what you search far, your computer's IP address, cookies, and what they collect (what you search for, your search query, your IP address, and cookies).
What do you think about this self-reflexive promotional video? Do you think that Facebook should have done the same thing and explain what their privacy policies are in video?

With the recent controversy about Facebook being able to retain people's information and being able to have control over people's information and rights to people's information, does this scare you at all in terms of your privacy being violated?

Here's the link to the Google Video...What do you think?

What If It Doesn't Sound Like You?

So because behavioral advertising is utilized so frequently on Facebook and in Gmail accounts, are you ever disappointed if you get an ad that doesn't seem to align with your paticular interests and activites that you outlined on Facebook, or that you wrote about in an email you sent through Gmail? Sometimes, when I have an ad pop up on Facebook, if there's one that seems random, I'll get upset. I mean if they're going to do the behavioral advertising thing, they might as well do it the full way and give me ads that I will at least find interesting? What do you think of this idea, and do you agree or disagree?

The Week in Review

After examining the pattern of last week's Facebook Behavioral advertising, I'm interested to see what you think about the way that Facebook utilizes personal information in order to place ads. The questions I have for this week are as follows: do you notice these ads when you are on Facebook? And in examining either the pattern I have shown below with ads targeted towards likes and dislikes or perhaps your own experience with this type of thing when you utilize Facebook, does it bother you that Facebook does this kind of thing? Do you feel your privacy is being violated with this method of targeted and behavioral advertising?

Jam Hip Hop - This ad was interesting to me because it was the first ad that I saw regarding my wide variety of music tastes.

LDS Dating - also not in my interests, but the word "love" is

Supersocial Online Dating - As a lunchtime service for escorts, etc. I am interested to know why this popped up on my site. Though I do talk a lot about love and relationships in my interests, I think it's funny that I would get a singles notice.

Love the Giants? - Again, the Giants are a part of my Facebook profile, so this is clearly evidence of a behavioral marketing technique

A Passion for Dance... - Dance is also a running theme on my Facebook page, so it is expected that I would receive this kinds of advertisements

Goodies Ice Cream - Not quite sure why this one popped up, as I don't mention ice cream in my Facebook interests, but it seems like the kind of place that I would go.

Sullivan Tire - This is an ad directed towards Red Sox fans, which I have mentioned in my Facebook Profile

Get Your Own Website - I haven't put anything specific into my Facebook profile that would give the impression that I was interested in having a Facebook page

Dance Competition in San Diego - Dancing is throughout my profile as an interest of mine, so it would be expected that I get a lot of dance advertisements
